New Vehicle Preview – 2014 Lexus IS

In keeping with the trend of building more emotionally engaging vehicles, Lexus has taken the opportunity to create something truly spectacular in the all-new 2014 IS.  As the sun sets on the current generation Lexus IS sports sedan, let’s not forget that it had a fantastic seven-year run – and it has aged very gracefully.  It comes as no surprise that Lexus has chosen an aggressive design path for the vehicle’s replacement, given that the outgoing model will be a tough act to follow.  But in typical Lexus fashion, the company is pushing the envelope on vehicle design, and raising the bar even higher on performance and driving pleasure – and in typical Japanese fashion, the process involved meticulous calculations over countless hours on what “driving fun” actually means, and then mechanically reproducing it.

The culmination of their efforts, which directly reflect Toyota Motor Corporation president Akio Toyoda’s commitment to build engaging automobiles, creates the best driving experience possible in the entry-level luxury sedan segment without sacrificing comfort or reliability.  While the new IS sedan carries over both powertrains from the previous generation vehicle, the IS 350 RWD model receives the same 8-speed automatic transmission from the Lexus IS-F, providing lightning quick gear changes and improved acceleration over the standard 6-speed automatic found in the rest of the IS lineup.  Furthermore, it features technology that allows it hold gears while cornering – perfect for the occasional track day or frantic jaunt to the office.

Performance aside, the 2014 IS features some very useful convenience and technology features as well, including a 60/40-split folding rear seat, a standard Lexus Display Audio System with HD Radio that picks up streaming traffic and weather information free over the air, and the Lexus Remote Touch interface for models equipped with navigation.

The real icing on the cake is the IS F Sport.  Lexus went to great lengths to distinguish F Sport models from the rest of the IS line by adding a unique front fascia and grille, Adaptive Variable Suspension (available on IS 350 RWD models only), an LFA-inspired TFT instrument cluster, aluminum sport pedals, black headliner, 18” staggered width wheels, an intake sound generator, and F Sport badging throughout.

The all-new 2014 Lexus IS arrives at Mungenast Lexus of St. Louis this summer.
